Oh, the joy of aesthetically gifted bloggers. Not hatin'. I love 'em. I just don't add up. I always read a blog and think, "that's not really like that." I dunno. I'm looking for a little lesson in blogging. Not to become "one of them," per se. As if. I thought, maybe if I do some of these fun things I see and then blog about them, I can learn a little something. Plus, it would just be fun to have a Scavenger Hunt to lighten up the week.
Wanna join me? What's that you ask... Is there a prize??? Why yes, yes there is. You have fun doing something new! YEAY!
1. Find the quirky tee for me. {insp. by Oh Joy! Blog}

Tormented and Tattered...
These days I don't look so hot. Most days I stay in some semblance of pajamas. My beauty is not what's for his glory, but my rags are.
I have experienced some torment too. Inner turmoil matches my outward appearance. And I feel I am going "crazy" at times. For no apparent reason. Why am I being attacked?
Though I haven't asked the Lord to take this torment from me, He answered me in His word today anyway. "My grace is sufficient... power is perfected in weakness" These weaknesses, disruptions, diseases, distractions, insults, disagreements, distresses and difficulties are for Christ's sake. For when I am weak and beaten down, then He in me is (therefore I am) strong and lifted up. [paraphrased from 2 Corinthians 12:7-10]
A while back I stopped watching scary movies. Well, now I feel my life, though perhaps not on the outside, has turned into one.
God, I pray for you to stay near. Keep your glory around me. Shine my way so I can bounce the light to others around me who need it also.

Real life
So, we just found out today that we'll be closing on our first home in about a month and a half.
I've been frantically browsing design blogs and websites looking for "my style." I so want to make our new home a sanctuary.
Then I have thoughts like: why does it matter? Am I spending too much time dreaming up my earthly heaven? And not enough time preparing for my heavenly home??? After all we are just aliens on a field trip (so-to-speak) to planet Earth. Yeah, I want my home to be beautiful for my family to wake up to and comfortable for others to visit. But more than that I am praying that my home is not an object for anyone to covet, yet something to give God glory with. Lord, please teach me how we will do this.
For now, this is what my apartment looks like once I've spent all afternoon and evening with my children... Cuh-razy!!!!!

Good Friday
Here's my little-one decked out in her Good Friday garb. Nothing special, just a sweet lil one filling out these hand-me-down treasures. The only new things are the shorts under her skirt and the headband.

Today's the day we remember when our Saviour died a cruel death to pay the penalty for our sins. From the sins those before Him committed to the sins we will commit tomorrow. Jesus truly paid it all on the cross. It doesn't get more beautiful than giving your life for those you love.
"For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly."
Romans 5:6

Fashion Friday
Today was fun. We went out to a Brazilian Steakhouse for my husband's birthday. I wore my baggy skinny jeans my mom sent me to borrow. ;) They actually don't look great at all, but that's what I'm going for these days.
I don't have them yet, but my ma's mailing me these pretty pieces for spring. I'm so excited because I don't have a penny to be spending on clothes. So I'm
going to wear them out like an orphan! I think this will be good for me. She picked them up at a vintage secondhand store for $1 a piece!

A spring camisole to be worn over EVERYTHING! Yes, I said a cami OVER things.

A Texan Top I'm majorly excited about

And probably my favorite piece- a cotton skirt w tulle underneath!!! Omgoodness, can't wait to pretend like Alice in this!
Let's not forget Heidi-buggie's little outfit for Easter:

This year we're changing it up. Usually you dress up for Easter and dress down for other days. Well we're dressing humbly for Easter and dressing up whenever else we feel like it! Yay!
What are your fashion ventures these days?

Not feeling very creative
Okay so I had this whole thing, it got deleted. apparently I'm not supposed to post it. But here's what I've been meditating on today:
By Pastor Scott Thomas, President of Acts 29
David Powlison, in his book, Seeing with New Eyes (P & R Publishing, 2003) examines human motivation—why we do what we do by listing 35 questions that are practical, theological, psychological, motivational and convicting. (pg. 132-40)
By asking these questions, pastors can discover hidden (and not so hidden) idols in their hearts. I am deeply concerned about the spiritual health of pastors more than ever. We verbalize all of the right things about gospel-centrality and we mentally ascent to worshipping God whole-heartedly. Yet, functionally we bow before the gods of knowledge, achievement, success, creativity and prestige.
Tim Keller said:
"Remember, your career didn't die for your sins. Neither did your marriage. It's hard not to slip into idolatry if your marriage is good. But Jesus has to be your King, your Savior. Now you don't love your wife less. But you love Jesus more. Jesus is the only Savior who can help you when your heart is breaking” (2009 The Gospel Coalition conference).
A pastor’s functional savior can easily be his success—however he defines it. We know something or someone is a savior to us if it gives us worth, value, identity, peace, satisfaction, meaning and fulfillment. Only the gospel can provide this for us. Salvation, satisfaction, significance and pleasure is ultimately only found in Jesus and He will relentlessly pursue us to make that a reality in our hearts.
John Calvin wrote in the Institutes,
“The human heart is a factory of idols...Everyone of us is, from his mother’s womb, expert in inventing idols.”
Examine the following questions and ponder your heart for the existent idols and then crush the idols of our heart before they crush you.
35 X-Ray Questions for the Heart
What do you love? Hate?
What do you want, desire, crave, lust, and wish for? What desires do you serve and obey?
What do you seek, aim for, and pursue?
Where do you bank your hopes?
What do you fear? What do you not want? What do you tend to worry about?
What do you feel like doing?
What do you think you need? What are your 'felt needs'?
What are your plans, agendas, strategies, and intentions designed to accomplish?
What makes you tick? What sun does your planet revolve around? What do you organize your life around?
Where do you find refuge, safety, comfort, escape, pleasure, and security?
What or whom do you trust?
Whose performance matters? On whose shoulders does the well being of your world rest? Who can make it better, make it work, make it safe, make it successful?
Whom must you please? Whose opinion of you counts? From whom do you desire approval and fear rejection? Whose value system do you measure yourself against? In whose eyes are you living? Whose love and approval do you need?
Who are your role models? What kind of person do you think you ought to be or want to be?
On your deathbed, what would sum up your life as worthwhile? What gives your life meaning?
How do you define and weigh success and failure, right or wrong, desirable or undesirable, in any particular situation?
What would make you feel rich, secure, prosperous? What must you get to make life sing?
What would bring you the greatest pleasure, happiness, and delight? The greatest pain or misery?
Whose coming into political power would make everything better?
Whose victory or success would make your life happy? How do you define victory and success?
What do you see as your rights? What do you feel entitled to?
In what situations do you feel pressured or tense? Confident and relaxed? When you are pressured, where do you turn? What do you think about? What are your escapes? What do you escape from?
What do you want to get out of life? What payoff do you seek out of the things you do?
What do you pray for?
What do you think about most often? What preoccupies or obsesses you? In the morning, to what does your mind drift instinctively?
What do you talk about? What is important to you? What attitudes do you communicate?
How do you spend your time? What are your priorities?
What are your characteristic fantasies, either pleasurable or fearful? Daydreams? What do your night dreams revolve around?
What are the functional beliefs that control how you interpret your life and determine how you act?
What are your idols and false gods? In what do you place your trust, or set your hopes? What do you turn to or seek? Where do you take refuge?
How do you live for yourself?
How do you live as a slave of the devil?
How do you implicitly say, “If only…” (to get what you want, avoid what you don't want, keep what you have)?
What instinctively seems and feels right to you? What are your opinions, the things you feel true?
Where do you find your identity? How do you define who you are?

Break my heart for what breaks Yours
A couple months ago, I got tired of singing worship songs as I once did. Just singing whatever words were in them for the sake of the song. Do I really mean everything I sing? I sing so much of other people's words. I wanted God to change me. In this song in particular, it angered me that I would sing "break my heart" if I didn't really mean it, so I prayed for God to break my heart for what breaks His. A little scary. What did I expect? I had no idea.
Now, I do.
One of Ben's mentors Thomas Young tragically ended his own life last Friday. I've been grieving for him like no one I've ever grieved before, and I never even met the man. I knew him only through Ben. Since Thomas' death, I've been aching for the people he left behind. So many "question marks floating around the room" as evangelist Kelly Green put it so well at his funeral today. And yet, to die is gain.
I'm forever changed. I will continue to pray for the people affected by this tragedy and remember that God doesn't always give answers. He didn't even give His son an anwer when he asked for an other way than the cross. The 'human condition' as my mom calls it is desperately crying... Hosanna~ "save now!"
Here's my heart, Lord... broken.
Now, I do.

a WAY in a Manger!
I needed a little something to cheer me up tonight. So I broke out the glue gun, and Christopher and I had a little advent fun. We made this manger scene out of stuff we had around the house. We bought nothing, and will need nothing more than another glue stick before we finish. We made the stable, manger bed, and angel. Later this weekend we'll make the Mary, Joseph and Baby figures (and maybe a camel). We're trying to keep it as biblically accurate as possible. Christopher made a scroll on the top that quotes Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased." in beautiful lettering. He traced the animals out of felt- so proud of his sketching of late. We won't decorate with much more than this this Christmas. Hopefully, this creation will remind us for years to come of the true meaning of this advent season. I want it also to remind us of His second coming, so that we will prepare ourselves, like a bride for her wedding day, to be ready for our JESUS.
Emmanuel- God is with us!!!

Yes, Jesus loves me
Couldn't sleep. Spending time with Him in the quiet tonight. What an extremely blessed time. Gosh, that sounds fake. But this is so real. How else do I say it?
This verse popped in my head:
Zephaniah 3:17 (English Standard Version)
17 The LORD your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.
I found this article about how the Father is in our midst and sings over us...
http://members.cox.net/theokratos/Our%20Rejoicing%20God.pdf
Now, I don't try to make graven images of God. Like, I don't try to make him look like something physical, but I've really been trying to get a picture of what it would look like in my limited capacity for Him to rejoice over me with loud singing. This picture of singer Derek Webb I think portrays a kind of imagination of that. * A friend from church, Mike Haskew, took this pic. I swiped it from his flickr album*
The Father is simply amazing. Spend some time with Him today.
Graciously,
Micah

My Holiday Feet
Small Group was last night. We were running late. When we got there, there were already women leaving- without their husbands. They were ALL excited. I'm like... What's going on??? Ben said, "Surprise! You're all going to get a pedicure while we stay here with the kids." WHAT??? Totally threw me off! I didn't even believe it for the first 15 minutes. AMAZING!
So here are my new toes in my favorite socks my hubby got for me on my last birthday. They're red for the holidays. I like to wear my socks with my blood-red shoes from Clark's. So comfy you can exercise in them, I wear these with "dressy jeans". So, I think my new thing is comfort- we'll see how that goes... Anyway, I like the way the fish net socks look in these shoes- different.
Do you remember when you used to go to Sunday School as a kid? One of the most vivid things I remember learning is how to put on the armor of God. I guess as I got older I figured I needed to move on to bigger and better more "spiritual" things in my relationship with Christ. HA!
But lately I've been reminded of what the Bible commands us to do everyday... Eph 6:11 says "Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil." My blog today reminds me likewise to "shod [my] feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace" (vs. 15)
I am thankful to God for my wise husband who was literally sent to this Earth to keep me humble. I used to think I was a very humble person. I'm coming to find that I actually have years of pride built up in me. Last night, for example, I was 'fishing for compliments' from my husband as I often do in one form or another. I HAVE to know that I'm loved, and beautiful and cherished... He knew exactly what I was doing and just stopped me right there and said, "That is pride."
He was right.
So today, I am meditating on the gospel that says:
"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but it is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever."
1 John 2:16-17
What's your favorite 'footwear' this fall (phyical and spiritual)?

My Dearest Micah
Okay....since this is partially about glamour I figured I would share my new Holiday dress with you. $24.99 from Target, solid black satin with toole (sp?) underneath. Now, the fun part....I took outdoor three inch wide satin ribbon ($3, Joanne's), large bag of multi-colored rhinestones ($12, Joanne's), rhinestone super glue ($2.99, Joanne's) and made a fun Bling belt! The dress is very versatile and can be dressed up with great red heels or dressed down with tights and a pair of flats. This was for our salon's Christmas ad...so much FUN!
Hi Love!
It is 1:26 over here in Florida and I am desperate to talk to you...but I don't think its a great idea to call you at this hour ;) I suppose it is the woman in me that gets "sappy" and sentimental around the Holidays but I couldn't help but thinking about where we both were last year at this time and where we are now. Last year at this time you, Ben, and Chris had just welcomed baby Heidi into the world. I still remember the first time she came to church, how natural you make motherhood look (in my eyes you are super-woman), how "googly" eyed Ben was over his baby girl, and the way that Christopher would look at her...absolutely precious! Daniel and I were getting ready to embark on our journey together and we were anxiously awaiting our wedding day. You were to faithful to pray for me during that time, it meant more than you will ever know! It was the beginning of a friendship and sisterhood that I hold so dear to my heart. I know God is using you and Ben in such an amazing way to grow His kingdom and encourage people in Christ. I can't wait to visit!
You are a shining example of the Proverbs 31 woman:
Pursues an ongoing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Loves, honors, and greatly enriches the life of her husband, encouraging and supporting his leadership within his family and his church.
Nurtures the next generation, shaping and molding the children who will one day define who we are as a community and as a nation.
Creates a warm and loving environment for family and friends.
Is a faithful steward of the time and money God has entrusted to her.
Speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction as she encourages others and develops godly friendships.
Shares the love of Christ by extending her hands to help the poor and opening her arms to the needy.

This semester I am honored and humbled to serve a small group of girls every Sunday night. We meet at Panera and discuss our book, Lies Women Believe and the Truth that Sets Them Free. It is an awesome read and God has used it in my life to bring lies that I didn't even know I was believing to light. Lies about Him, ourselves, sin, womanhood, children, marriage....she breaks down what our world pushes on women and what the Word says. I tell my group quite often that we should be aware of what kind of people we surround ourselves with and who we get advice from. It is so important for our young woman today to have friends that they can trust, lean on, and be real with...gals that seek Christ above all things and gals that pray for each other through struggles and triumphs. I feel so blessed to have you as that kind of friend. Thank you for being a true sister-in-Christ. You are loved and cherished!
Miss you!

Happy First Birthday, Heidi!
Last night, as I was lying in bed, I remembered how a year ago I was going to the hospital at that time. I had complained for weeks and weeks about not being comfortable and not going into labor soon enough. Labor was an amazing memory. Amazing. Ben was there for me all the way! I am so blessed to have that memory, and so blessed to have my beautiful baby. God, thank you for the blessing of Heidi. Please continue to teach me how to raise her to love you more than life and to magnify you in all she does.
Today Heidi is walking, babbling, blowing kisses, yelling, turning pages in a book, playing Peek-a-boo, drawing on the Magna Doodle, eating everything (including cake), and loving!!!
Happy Birthday, sweet girl.
